Big Burn Bar — Pine Tar & Saindoux Soap
In August 1910, a fire took three million acres of Idaho and Montana in two days. They still just call it the Big Burn. It rewrote how this country thinks about wildfire, and up in the panhandle you can still find the scars.
Pine tar is what pine gives up under heat — the tree’s answer to fire. This bar is pine tar and saindoux, which is rendered lard, and we’re not going to dress that up. It’s been the working man’s soap for two hundred years because nothing about the formula needed improving.
It’s dark. It lathers like it means it. It smells like a fire that just went out.

Sawtooth Meadow Bar — Lavender & Chamomile Soap
The meadows under the Sawtooths get a few weeks. Snow comes off in June, the wildflowers run hard through July, and by August the show is over. Nothing up there blooms on a schedule that suits anybody. Neither does this bar. The chamomile gets infused into the oils while it's actually blooming in our beds — a few weeks a summer — and lavender goes over the top. Then it's done until next year. Devil’s Bedstead Salve — Frankincense
The Devil's Bedstead is a real peak in the Pioneer Mountains — nearly twelve thousand feet of bare rock over Wildhorse Canyon. Somebody looked at it a hundred-some years ago and decided that's where the devil sleeps. We hung that name on a tin of frankincense, which people have been burning in temples and working into their skin for four thousand years. A sacred resin under a devil's name. We think both sides would find it funny. Resin infused into plant oils, set with beeswax, poured warm into a tin that fits a pocket. Small batch. Nampa, Idaho

Camas Prairie Bar — Oatmeal & Honey Soap
When the camas blooms in June, the Camas Prairie turns so blue that the first settlers coming over the rise mistook it for a lake. Now it's grain country — wheat and oats on a high bench above the Salmon. This is the prairie's bar: ground oats for the scrub, raw honey for what it pulls back in. The plainest bar we make and the one that never comes back. It's what you hand somebody who doesn't know what to ask for. Cold process, cured six weeks. Nampa, Idaho.
